Hosta (Plantain Lily)

A large clump-forming herbaceous perennial with broad, heart-shaped, deeply ribbed chartreuse to bright green leaves arranged in a dense mound. A tall flowering scape rises above the foliage, bearing the tubular lily-like blooms typical of the genus. Hostas are native to Japan, Korea, and China and are among the most popular shade garden perennials, with hundreds of named cultivars; the golden-green leaf color here suggests a gold or 'Sum and Substance'-type selection.
