Golden-edged Japanese spindle (variegated evergreen euonymus)

Euonymus japonicus 'Aureomarginatus' · Celastraceae

A dense, rounded evergreen shrub with thick, glossy, leathery oval leaves that are deep green in the center with broad creamy-yellow margins. Native to Japan, Korea and China, it is widely planted as an ornamental hedge and foundation shrub, especially in coastal areas where it tolerates salt spray and wind. Occasional shoots may revert to solid green and grow more vigorously than the variegated growth.
